Answer- Safety at work place is not only the physical safety (from the machines and other physical things that could be dangerous for employees) but it also include heath and mental well being (harrsement, discrimination etc.) of the employees. Safety at work place makes employees to feel protected so that they can contribute their one hundred percent without concerning about their safety. If the employees feel that they are in safe hands their productivity increase. Now we will consider an example to understand this better. Suppose there are two person Josh and Mark who have same KSAs (knowledge, skills and abilities) and they worked at the same post but in different companies namely; X and Y respectively. Company X is located in a different country and company Y operates in America. Josh who worked for company X are facing several issues like being an foreigner he face discrimination and he is unable to blend and make social connection with other employees. Furthermore, Josh finds out that the safety precautions the company is offering to its employees while using machinery are not appropriate and also not as per standards. This whole ambiguity about the safety at work place lower down the morale of Josh and he is not able to utilize his potential and he is searching for other options where these problems do not exists. On the other hand company Y is very much concerned about the safety of its employees and therefore Mark is motivated and doesn't have any such issue. Therefore it is very important for the companies to ensure safety at work place so that their employees should not get demotivated and the companies will not have to suffer.
Note- Companies name have not been take (due to defaming issues) you can add as per your choice.
