Homework Answers

Answer #1

a) Production time per day= 6 hours = 6 * 3600 seconds = 21600 seconds

cycle time(C) = production time per day / output per day = 21600 / 600 = 36 seconds per toy truck

b) Example: A small bakery has only 1 workstation where it can produce 12 cakes in a day operation and the working duration of the day being 12 hours. hence

cycle time per cake = number of workstations * production time per day / output per day = 1 * 12 /12

= 1 hour

it means that the bakery can produce on an average 1 cake per hour.

business implication: cycle time affects service/output capacity of a business. say in above scenario if the demand for cake increases to 18(say) per day then the bakery won't be able to fulfil this demand in given time. because cycle time of cake manufacturing is 1 hour per cake which restricts its manufacturing capacity.
