Using the seven dimensions of culture we analyze John Deere's organizational culture. First, John Deere encourages its employees to innovate and take risks, next the employees of John Deere are asked to pay attention to detail, and John Deere focuses on the outcomes that the employees of the company can achieve. For example, the company has formed employee relations groups that explore shared interests, experiences, and diversity-related dimensions that affect the workplace. John Deere is focused on outcomes because these groups focus on bringing all employees together on a common mission. Let us consider the other dimensions of organizational culture. John Deere is a people-oriented company, the company consciously seeks to form diverse work teams and so is team-oriented, and the level of aggressiveness at John Deere is moderate or low. The reason for low aggressiveness is that employee relationship groups are formed at John Deere to make the company a relationship-based company. One reason why aggressiveness or competitiveness among employees of John Deere is relatively low is that those employees who are engaged and play a leadership role are given opportunities to lead teams and are recognized as leaders. The last dimension in the seven dimensions of organizational culture is stability. John Deere has extensive corporate social responsibility activities that provide a degree of stability to the company and make it sustainable. John Deere has made conscious efforts to spread its CSR activities globally.
The culture of John Deere was established through diversity, and inclusiveness in the company implemented through Employee Resource Groups. These groups are multicultural and multi-ethnic and provide opportunities for leadership to minority groups. Also, John Deere set up The Common Interest Employee Resources Groups which are organized around common interests. The culture is strengthened through the company’s mission. The culture is strengthened through an emphasis on efficiency, collaboration, world-class employee engagement, and competitiveness in the market. The groups including the Employee Resource Groups help maintain the culture at John Deere.
