Social media being on a global scale presents itself as a necessity for brands to maintain their image and remain consistent with their audience. The best use of social media comes from brands that have a story to tell and its need to interact with the customers. Therefore, for markets to learn how to leverage social media, they would first need to create a concrete vision of how they want to present their brands to the audience, develop both a long term and short term goals and by learning how to leverage the data that has been collected to bring changes to the plan wherever necessary. Once the basic skills are out of the way, a marketer would need to understand how communication works and utilize it as a medium of developing the necessary relationships with the customer. As a marketing professional, we should have the necessary understating of the skills we lack, which can be considered with a gap analysis. Training in the tool utilized in social media marketing such as SEO would provide for a more holistic view regarding both our planning and execution. We should make decisions and not be afraid to make mistakes, but, the decisions we make should reflect the tone the brand is aiming for. Learning from mistakes and therefore experience is the best way we can train markets to be proficient with social media.
