All these structures are a part of the concept, "
Organizational Structures".
Meaning of organizational
structure:
An organizational structure defines the entire hierarchical
arrangement of an organization where all the activities including
the levels of management, the span of control, the flow of
communication and delegation of power and authority are determined
to make the flow of the business smoother. In other words, the
organizational structure gives the real outline of what and how an
organization works.
There are different types of organizational structures. Some of
them are as below:
- Hierarchial structure(Based on assigning one supervisor for a
group of employees)
- Divisional structure(Based on dividing each function under
various divisions)
- Network structure(Based on providing an open platform for
everyone to get involved without much centralization)
- Cellular structure(Based on working on autonomous units with
interdependent interactions between each other to complete a
work)
- Flat structures (Based on minimum levels of middle
management)
Coming to the question:
There are some distinguishable attributes to both the cellular
and network structures of the organization. They are as follows:
- .Difference in the way of working: In the case
of cellular structure, employees form a self team wherein which
they work independently and then they interdependently combine the
result together while in case of network structure, there is no
confined structure of working but instead everyone interacts with
each other with open communication.
- Difference in the flow of communication: In
network structure, there would be communication between both the
internal and external parties of the organization while in case of
cellular structure, the communication would only be between the
independent groups.
- Difference in complexity: The cellular
structure is far simpler to analyze than the network structure as
in the network structure, the line of relationship is too complex
as everyone has interaction with every other of the organization
which increases the complexity of the structure.
- Difference in decision making: Taking
decisions or analyzing a decision made is really hard in a network
structure as many are involved fora single task while the other
structure is very systematic and hence decision making is
easy.
Hence the answer.
