Research a specific situation which occurred at a company in which communication was handled either very well or very poorly. You can select any company from any time frame and any situation which serves as a prime example of how communication should or should not be handled in business. The situation can involve communication between management, employees, customers, or clients.
Although it is not required, it is recommended to run your topic selection through the instructor to ensure your presentation is on the right track.
Prepare a slide show presentation and references page about the communication situation you have selected. A communication situation within a business can include, but is not limited to, any of the following:
An advertising campaign
A social media occurrence
An email
A phone call
A written letter
A memo
A series of instant or text messages
A radio or television commercial
A billboard ad
A public speech from a company representative
A wiki or blog
REQUIRED PRESENTATION COMPONENTS
Introduce the company and setting
Give the background on what lead to the situation
Discuss the details of what happened in the situation
Discuss how the company reacted to the situation
Discuss how the public reacted to the situation (if applicable)
If you are presenting on a well-handled situation:
Explore and discuss how the communication was handled well and what the consequences were
Identify three concepts you learned in this class and explain how the company applied those concepts in this situation
If you are presenting on a poorly-handled situation:
Explore and discuss how the communication was handled poorly and what the consequences were
Identify three concepts you learned in this class and explain how the company should have applied those concepts in this situation to have handled it better
The presentation slides should adhere to the concepts discussed in the lesson on business presentations on how to correctly design and format slides. The slides should meet the following guidelines:
Consistent background
Consistent font colors and sizes
Effective, high contrast colors between text and background
Bullet-point phrases
Simplified headings
Clear, concise language
Only three to five points per slide
Discussion notes in the "notes" section on each slide
