Have we as a society gone too far in recognizing the legal rights of inmates? Many people believe we have, yet few would argue that inmates should lose all protections of the Constitution and Bill of Rights because they have committed a felony and been incarcerated. What are your thoughts? Why?
I will not agree with the statement because inmates need to suffer from these sanctions. We have not gone too far in this regard. If we provide inmates all the constitutional rights provided to normal citizen then what will be the deterrent for the crime. Inmates have done something wrong and as a civilized society we cannot welcome or accept such wrong doing. When their rights are curtailed, it will act as deterrent for other people to commit such crime. If they will access all the rights then what will be the message that will be circulated and reflected in the society. It will be regarded that no matter which crime you will do you will have all the civil and constitutional rights. So according to me inmates should be curtailed in their rights.
