Answer #1

What is one goal you have set for yourself as a student?

Personally speaking, as a student my goal is to take an extra challenging course along with securing a good grade in courses that are important for the degree program. I would analyze which course impacts the degree and then set realistic goals for grades for the courses. Once I have set these, I would also take up additional challenging course that is pertinent in the job market. I would work hard to achieve these SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Result, Time-bound) goals.

What is rewarding about feedback from your manager?

My manager provides feedback (both positive and negative) for me. Feedback is critical for the success of a person. The most rewarding thing about my manager when giving feedback is that the positives are shared immediately and appreciated before everyone; the negative feedback is provided in a closed room and he ensures that my feelings are not hurt. My manager provides negative feedback to me in such a way that I consider them as ways of improving myself.

Why might an employee be more innovative when a job is intrinsically rewarding?

When a job is intrinsically rewarding, the employee is more innovative because his/her sense of achievement is accomplished. This gives them a sense of satisfaction. Intrinsic rewards include sense of pleasure and accomplishment and personal growth. These factors motivate an individual more than extrinsic (tangible) rewards. That is why an employee is more innovative in the job to keep moving to the next level.

Name two ways to ensure that empowerment is done right.

  • A manager can gauge the employee performance to ensure that the empowerment is done right. When empowerment is done right it provides a positive impact on employees and productivity increases.
  • An empowered employee feels that he/she is in control of the work and the work environment. When the organizational objectives are achieved, then it is a measurement to know that the managers have empowered correctly.

In an organization with a strategy focused on low cost, is employee satisfaction important? Why or why not?

Yes, employee satisfaction is pertinent in any organization whether their strategy is focused on low cost or not. Employee satisfaction is directly proportional to the efficiency of the organization. That is why it is very critical for organizations to have their employees satisfied.
