Determine the critical path of the project.

Calculate the planned duration of the project in weeks

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Solution:

From the given information, network diagram can be drawn as below:

From the network diagram, ES, EF, LS, LF are computed as;

ES - Earliest Start

EF - Earliest Finish

LS - Latest Start

LF - Latest Finish

The computed values are summarized in the table below:

(a) In order to determine critical path, slack of each activity needs to be calculated.

Slack = (LS - ES) or (LF - EF)

Critical Path = Same ES and LS or same EF and LF or Slack = 0

From the above table,

Activities with 0 Slack are: A, B, C, F, G, H, I

Critical Path will be comprised of activities with 0 slack. Therefore,

Critical Path = A - B - C - F - G - H - I

(b) Project duration = Earliest Finish time of the last activity i.e. Activity I

Project duration = 75 working days

Prepare a table in Excel showing the time-phased budget for the project. Assume the budgeted cost is linearly distributed over the duration of the activity, e.g., if the budgeted cost of a Task is $100 and the duration of the Task is 2 weeks, then budgeted cost/week=100/2= $50.
