As head of state agency, you are concerned that your employees have fallen into the old trap of assuming that “the way things have always been done” is the way they should be done in the future. You would like your agency to be one known for its innovation practices, for being on the cutting edge of what’s happening in your field. What would you do?

It is quite essential for me to break this illusion that things would be done in future the way they have been done till now:

  • Training and education of employees to make them understand the importance of innovation is really important.
  • Mission and long term vision of the organization as a while sold also be communicated very clearly so that every employee has an idea of what values the company stand by.
  • Change management techniques should be followed so as to reduce the reluctance to change in employees.
  • Previous benefits of innovation should be highlighted so that employees become a little sensitive and acceptance towards changes increases. Those factors should be highlighted which shows that there is something in it for the employees as well.
