The organization in which I work is not fully designed to handle these types of processes but they are slowing progressing toward a more technological system. While the company does have computers, some of their systems are still outdated and need to be upgraded. An example is the system we used to clock in for work or clock out. When I started at this company about seven years ago, we utilized a system where we had paper time sheets and how we would use these were by placing the sheet underneath the machine. Once the paper was under the machine, the date and time would be stamped into a narrow slot. After about two years, they upgraded their system to time cards. Every employee had their own individual cards and when they reported for their shift, they would simply find their card and swipe the machine. This lasted for about another two years before it was determined that some employees were swiping the clock for their friends. They tried, again, to implement another system by going back to the time sheets but instead you would have to use your fingerprint and then you could insert the sheet inside of the machine from the top and it would stamp the sheet and then push it back out. While they did essentially advance from a technology standpoint, they could have just made it to where we used our prints to clock in. With the company being as big as it is, I feel that they should update their entire system as far as how they do paperwork and manage time. I also feel that they should put security measures in place to protect people's private and sensitive information. As a manager, it is critical to have the employees feel like their data is safe and effective and that their systems are updated and secure because there are many companies whose data is being compromised and also exploited and when a company fails to advance with technology they are decreasing the chances of them being able to effectively handle any security risks.
Absolutely there is no doubt in the fact that more secure the organization is in terms of data better the future of that organization, more the trust among the employees regarding the company.
Having said that we should acknowledge that organization has made efforts to improve in the technology front but could have improved much better keeping in mind that it is exiting form last 7 years.
Paper work is something that they should avoid and should install the latest technologically feasible systems which would then ensure that the employee’s data is protected which will help in gaining the trust of the employees as well.
