In the St. Augustine readings, in chapter 3 there is a section where St. Augustine mentions "When they hear me speak about myself, how do they know whether I am telling the truth since no one knows a man’s thoughts, except the man's own spirit that is within him?" When I read this for some reason I felt like although his confessions are to feel better about himself (soul) it makes me think that although he is confessing to these older men he only cares to stay true to himself and the Lord and I feel connected with this quote. If you also connected with this quote what are your thoughts about staying true to self?
I feel completely connected and fully agree that by stating this quote, he is actually trying to stay true to himself and the lord. He is right when he says that "When they hear me speak about myself, how do they know whether I am telling the truth since no one knows a man’s thoughts, except the man's own spirit that is within him?" As, whatever we say to anyone, it totally depends on us whether we are saying truth or lie in that which depends on a person’s inner voice. If he has a person with integrity, he will speak the truth, if not, then he won’t feel hesitated in lying.
