1: Compute measures of central tendency below:
a)Mean, median, and mode for the grades taken by students
b)Mean, median, and mode for the number of hours studied
Discussion question 2: Does the number of hours studied correlate
with the grades taken? Please provide a narrative explaining the
relationship between the number of hours studied and the grades by
running correlation analysis in Excel.
In Excel, use insert function to compute the measures of
central tendency and use the CORREL function to find the
correlation coefficient between between the number of hours studied
and the grades. The value you will get will represent to what
extent these two variables are correlated. For example if the
result is 95, it means that these two variables are almost
perfectly correlated (95%).
Student ID | Grade | # of hours studied |
Student 1 | 70 | 4 |
Student 2 | 90 | 7 |
Student 3 | 80 | 6 |
Student 4 | 50 | 2 |
Student 5 | 80 | 6 |
Student 6 | 80 | 6 |
Student 7 | 90 | 7 |
Student 8 | 90 | 6 |
Student 9 | 50 | 5 |
Student 10 | 40 | 2 |
Student 11 | 100 | 8 |
Student 12 | 90 | 8 |
Student 13 | 70 | 4 |
Student 14 | 80 | 6 |
Student 15 | 80 | 6 |
Student 16 | 90 | 2 |
Student 17 | 60 | 8 |
Student 18 | 70 | 2 |
Student 19 | 50 | 3 |

Correlation |
The values are calculated using excel functions of mode, median, mean and correlation.
As correlation is 58.77%, it can be said that grades and number of hours are not significantly correlated to each other as far as this data is concerned. The correlation is average or medium.
