Siemens PLM is a product-based company, which has incorporated big data in its operations. Some of the challenges that the company faced while integrating the big data are as follows:

• Scarcity of skilled workforce: there are very few skilled professionals in big data, so finding the right talent becomes critical.
• Dealing with constant data growth in the company: the data in the company is growing at a tremendous rate. Much of the data is in raw form, which needs to be processed. This becomes hectic for the department dealing with big data.
• Integration of existing data sources: Before the implementation of big data, the company had its data sources in segregated format. For successful implementation of big data, smooth integration of all existing data sources into 1 source must happen.
• Data security: Big data deals with humongous amount of data. The data security must be stringent and scalable enough to protect all data

The advantages of using big data in the company’s operations are:

• Facilitates cost saving in the company
• Big Data is all about velocity processing. Hence, big data implementation leads to faster analysis of data
