What are the most effective leadership styles? Why are they effective? In your opinion, what are the least effective leadership styles? Explain.

"There are many different styles of leadership and all of them have their advantages and disadvantages. The most effective styles are transformational, servant and democratic. In transformational style, leaders motive their followers, promote expansion of staff capabilities and place the organization and its goal above their personal goals. (Hitt, Ireland, Hoskisson, 2015). Servant leadership places the enrichment of the staff and encourages collective decision-making while democratic leadership style takes into consideration the input of staff but the top management makes the final decision (TEC.com, 2015). In my opinion, an autocratic style of leadership is the most ineffective. It does not allow for growth, empowerment or enrichment of the employees which leads to a high turnover rate. Autocratic style does have its advantages in areas like the military, assembly line or tasks that require a specific way of doing things. Situational leadership style is also interesting because it fits the style of leadership to meet the particular needs of the organization. For example a publisher of a magazine could have transformational leadership style over their art and advertising departments, but an autocratic style over their printing department."

Answer #1

Agree with the point made on situational leadership. But in order to avail its benefits, a leader must be equally adept in almost all the styles of leadership, which is not impossible, but extremely difficult since leadership style of an individual is also a reflection of his own personality.

Transformational leadership is definitely the most effective, as it brings out the best in the followers, and also keeps them emotionally sound. However, autocratic leadership is not at all the worst. There are styles even worse such as laissez-faire leadership and toxic leadership.
