Community level trial cannot be administered at the individual level. Community intervention study targets the whole community and not individuals.

Community clinical trials are the trials conducted directly through doctors and not by academic research centres. They are also called community intervention studies.The purpose of this study is to reduce the occurrence of disease in the whole community. This trial is carried out when assessment of a community Intervention is required like water fluoridation.

Advantages of community based trials:

1.It is easy to change the community social environment than to change individuals behaviour.

2. Interventions are tested in natural conditions and are cheaper.

3. Main focus is on effectiveness

4.Less complex design

5.Evaluate a public health intervention in natural conditions.

Disadvantage of the community trials:
