explain computer aided drug design

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Computer-aided drug design uses computational approaches to discover, develop, and analyze drug and similar biologically active molecules. The ligand-based computer-aided drug discovery (LB-CADD) approach involves the analysis of ligands known to interact with a target of interest. Structure based drug design (SBDD) and ligand based drug design (LBDD) are the two general types of computer-aided drug design (CADD) approaches in existence.Toward the design of new antibiotics, computer-aided drug design (CADD) can be combined with wet-lab techniques to elucidate the mechanism of drug resistance, to search for new antibiotic targets and to design novel antibiotics for both known and new targets.

Raja Lautu is a 42-year-old woman who had a (screening) digital mammogram with CAD (computer-aided detection) performed recently as part of her physical examination (she is a new patient for Dr. Williams and BWW Medical Associates). When the mammogram revealed a small density in the right breast, a complete ultrasound of this breast was ordered with stereotactic breast biopsy. Considering Raja’s family history reveals that both her mother and maternal aunt have had breast cancer, she is understandably nervous about...
