Purpose of the Blood brain barrier:

the blood brain barrier is constitued by speciaized vascular endothelium that interacts directly with astrocytes neurons neuron's and it protects the brain from molecules of the systemic circulation

There are 4 main barrier functions

Para cellular barrier : formed by endothelial. Junctions restrict the free movements of the H2o compounds

Transcellular barrier: made possible by low level endocytosis and transcytosis thainhibits transport of substances to the cytoplasm

Enzymatic barrier : complex set of enzymesenzymes

Cerebral endothelium: express of large number of effux transporters
