This quailitative descriptive phenomenological study explored two research questions (a) what are the perceptions of pain and management of pain in older and young ones (b) what are the perceptions of adaptation after surgery . A pilot study included four patients of mixed age in two units of southern California hospital followed by surgery. The patients experienced different pattern of pain
