Provide three patient teaching/interventions for parents with an infant diagnosed with oral candidiasis in regards to the treatment of oral antifungal nystatin or fluconazole.

Oral candidasis is the common infection in infants. It usually appears few weeks or months after birth. White patches are seen in the mouth area . Low immunity is the cause for oral candidasis which is cured with antifungal medications.

Nursing interventions :

• Flucanozole or Nystatin is given for a period of atleast 2 weeks. It is extended upto 3 weeks based on severity.Do not miss a dose of drug . Give at regular intervals.
• Monitor for allergic response like fever , rashes to antifungal. If there is any allergic response stop the drug immediately.
• Check for culture reports before and after the therapy for the effectiveness.
• If IV antifungal is given , do not mix with other medication.
• Mild adverse reactions like vomiting may be present. Inform it to the parents of the infant.
