The drug which can inhibit cough is been divided into 2 types.

  1. Antitussives
  2. Expectorants.

Antitussives

Antitussives are the drug which will inhibit the cough center of the brain and block the cough reflex.

Eg:- Codeine

Expectorants

  • There is mucus menbranes lined in the respiratory tract will be stimulated during the respiratory infections and produce the secreation called mucus.
  • These are the drugs which will smoothen the mucus production.
  • Once the mucus is thin which will come out easily and the patients will feel free to breath.

Eg:Ritussin
