THE NURSE SHOULD EXPLAIN THE MODES OF TRANSMISSION OF HIV TO PATIENT:
HIV is transmitted by

  • sexual contact,
  • by exposure to blood and blood products.
  • from mother to child

HIV infection is caused by human immunodeficiency virus ,you can only get HIV from someone who is infected with HIV.There is no risk of transmitting HIV between two people who are uninfected.

So ,the people without HIV does not develop infections associated with HIV.

To prevent HIV the following measures should be taken:

  • male and female condom use
  • Testing and counselling for HIV
  • Voluntary medical male circumcision.
  • Use of sterile injecting equipment for injection
