How many grams of calcium gluconate (MW = 430) will contain the same number of milliequivalents of calcium as 2 10-grain tablets of calcium lactate (MW = 218)? Round your final answer to the nearest thousandth.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

10 grain tablet of calcium lactate contains 650mg.

And therefore,2 10 grain tablets contains 1300 mg.

Formula for number of milliequivalents is

Number of milligrams given×valency÷molecular weight.

As per the formula,

Number of milliequivalents of calcium present in 210 tablets of calcium tablet is

=210×1300×2÷218. =546000÷218

Now,we have to find number of grams of calcium gluconate contains these number of milliequivalents.

Let the number of milligrams of calcium gluconate be x.

As per the same formula used above, 546000÷218=x×2÷430. x=546000×430÷218×2. x=538,486.238 milligrams.

Here, as they asked in grams, convert it to grams.

So,the number of grams of calcium gluconate is 538.486238.

By rounding the answer to nearest thousandth, the final answer is 538.486.
