Prompt #2: Should foods fortified to levels above the RDA for one or more nutrients carry a consumer warning to avoid overconsumption?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Fortified foods containing nutrients above RDA can cause some adverse effects . Chronic intake of excessive fat soluble vitamins and some nutrients can interfere with metabolism of other nutrients

Eg - Excess intake of calcium in men has caused prostate cancer and in females it has caused increased hip fracture .

So fortified foods that contain nutrients above RDA should carry a consumer warning to avoid overconsumption and help prevent it's adverse effects .
