A 15-year-old boy is dying of cancer after all medical care options have been exhausted. Describe the plan of care for this child and his family. What strategies should the nurse use to support the child and his family though this difficult time?

Since the boy is in terminal stage of cancer, the nurse should provide an excellent palliative care. The pain that a most distressing symptom of the terminal stage of cancer should be alleviated by usage of opiod analgesic as prescribed by physicians. Care should be taken to help the patient to carry out his routine daily activities .Importance should be given to proper feeding .The nurse can also give psychological support to the patient as well as the family members. The ultimate aim of the palliation should be to improve the quality of life for the remaining period. Psychological support with tender loving care can play important role. The nurse can arrange counsellor for the family members to go through this difficult situation.
