Calculate the completion times for the IVs ; An IV infusing at 75 ml/hr with 700 ml of fluid left in the IV bag. The current time is 6:30p.m.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

First we have to calculate the total time needed for the IV fluid to infuse, the formula to calculate the infusion time is as follows

Infusion time in hour=Total volume (ml) ÷ flow rate(ml/hr)

In the given question ;The volume is 700ml,

The flow rate is 75ml/hr.

So the infusion time in hours is 700÷75= 9.3 hours.

1 hour= 60 minutes (multiple the hour × 60)

9 hour = 9×60=540 minutes

0 .3 hour =0.3×60=18 minutes

9.3 hour=9.3×60=558 minutes

In the given question the current time given is 6.30pm.

Next we have to calculate at which time the fluid will be complete. So add 9.3 hours with 6.30 pm.

6.30 + 9 hours + 0.3 hours

=6.30 pm+3.30 am+ 18 mts

=3.48am.

Therefore the fluid will be completed at 3.48 am.
