How can Advanced Practice nurses apply Maslow's hierarchy of need to their role when caring for their patients?
Maslow's Hierarchy of needs is applied in setting patient care priorities for a nurse. It is a valuable template for setting nurse engagement priorities.
Nurses should first address the problem that patient have and
physiologic and safety needs of a patient, before moving on to
those that impede their sense of belonging, patient's self esteem
and ultimately their ability to achieve personal goals.
Applying this model to the nursing practice suggest that when nurses do not feel their work place needs are met, they will be less motivated and less likely to progress to provide higher functions. With the needa for the working environment is fully satisfied, the nurses can be well on their role to reach top of their goal.
