Pediatric assessment should be done carefully as the nurses will be dealing with the parents and the new born baby,A good rapport should be created between the family ,to develop rapport demonstrate interest in and concern for the child and family during the interview .This rapport forms the foundation for the collaborative relationship between the nurse and the parent that will provide the best nursing care for the child.Certain points should be taken care like:

  • Make a self introduction,to demonstrate respect ,ask all family members present what name they prefer you to use when talking with them.
  • Explain the purpose of any testing of the child or any medication.
  • Provide privacy and remove as many distractions as possible during the interview.
  • Choose the language that understand the best for them.
  • Be honest with the child and parent while asking or answering any questions.
