I believe that nurses and other workers in the medical field need to look professional and keep up their appearance. Your hair color should be kept to mostly natural colors but having a little personality show in your appearance is also important. I think the new policy should have been a little more relaxed and understanding to a persons appearance.
My first impression if i saw a nurse with their thong sticking out, a lip ring, and a visible Molly tattoo would be shock. i personally do not care about what tattoos/piercings you have but when you are a nurse and are in such a role those types of things should be kept covered as best as possible. Dress code as strict as what the Summa Health System is trying to enforce is a little unrealistic. A woman should not be required to wear stockings or tights when wearing an appropriate length skirt or having to worry about whether or not others notice that they have underwear on or not. That should be your own private business not any one else's.
I definitely think the way you look impacts your professionalism in your patients eyes. If you are unkept and not keeping up on your appearance and whatnot I believe your patients are going to be skeptical of the care you are able to give them. A nurse is a role that is based on people looking up to you and looking to you for direction; you should dress in a way that reflects the role you are in as well as the company you work for.
Do you agree or disagree with an article above? Why or why not?

Answer #1

I totally agree on this article that the clothes should be the issue and not also the compulsion for wearing stocking and tights. The job of nurse is to help and direct the patient and if the person is great at their job then they shouldn't be forced to wear anything in fear of exposing the undergarments they are wearing. If the patients are skeptical then nurses shouldn't be bothered as it is not their problem that their patients are facing problems with their clothes. It is just that they should wear clothes according to the environment and the job they are doing. Wearing short skirts doesn't suit the profession and makes no sense to wear being a nurse.

I have realized that nurses have a very large role in the care patients receive when they are at their most vulnerable and just how much those people depend on nurses. Some insight i have learned is that nursing is all about having compassion and wanting to help others, you do not go into nursing for the money or the credit of being a nurse you...
