Can TobraDex® interact with any other medications from different routes of administration? Justify your answer.
Answer. TobraDex is medicine in form of drops or ointment for the treatment of eye infections. This medicine is a combination of two drugs, that is, Tobramycin and Dexamethasone.
Tobramycin is an antibiotic to treat the bacterial infections and Dexamethasone is a steroid to treat the swelling of eyes.
In case of interactions, yes, it will interact with other drugs, irrespective of their routes of administration. The reason being that, anyhow they will entre the bodily tissues and their secretions will interact with those of others.
Concomitant usage of topical steroids may increase the possibility and degree of healing. Dexamethasone is metabolised by cytochrome P450 3A4, which will lead to the symptoms of adrenal suppression.
So the combinations should be avoided unless it's positive effects is far more than its side effects.
