What are the major distinctions between primary care and specialty care?
The primary care; is received by a primary care physician, family doctor, nurse practitioner and a physician assistant. It is the first line of day to day health care that a patient receives. However, in case of a need; the primary care provider may coordinate with other specialist care providers that are specialized. Thus when the PCP does not meet the qualifications and expertise a speciality care provider who is specialized to address the issue of the client is needed. Thus a patient may initially go to the primary care provider; if he has symptoms such as vertigo. The PCP may refer him to an orthopaedics, neurologist and ENT for specialized care to find the exact root cause of vertigo and hence it’s subsequent treatment.
