Composition of ethics committee

There should be atleast of 7 members and maximum of 15 members in the review board which includes:

CHAIRPERSON
DEPUTY CHAIRMAN
MEMBER SECRETARY
MEMBERS- They may be a Basic medical scientist, legal expert, philosopher, lay person/ community representative, experts from different areas and fields, a representative from the patient.

Roles:

To protect the safety and well being, rights of the participants/ subject

To assess the pros and cons of the study

To make the participants aware of the pros and cons

To prevent the research trials which has unacceptable risks or harm to the participants

To enhance the ethical laws between the health care organisations and professionals conducting clinical trials

To monitor the compliance throughout the study

To consider the community views in respect to trials
