I need to write a final paper for my managed care course (Managed care is a healthcare delivery system that organized managed costs, quality and utilization) . I chose to do mine on diabetes and managed care as I am a type 1 diabetic. However, I need some ideas for this paper on what to write regarding diabetes and the relation to managed care.

INTRODUCTION

Type 1 diabetes is a condition in which immune system destroys insulin- making cells in the pancreas. These are called beta cells. The condition is usually diagnosed in children and young people,so it is used to be called juvenile diabetes.

NURSING MANAGEMENT

Nurses should provide accurate and up-to-date information about the patients condition so that the healthcare team can come up with appropriate interventions and management.

Nurses should assess the following for patients with diabetes mellitus:

- Assess the patients history

- Assess the physical condition

- Laboratory examining

MANAGED CARE

- educate about home glucose monitoring

- review factors in glucose instability

- encourage client to read labels

- discuss how clients antidiabetic medications work

- check viability of insulin used

- check Injection site periodically
