I chose Amoeba, is it either a prokaryote or eukaryote, and describe the environment in which it lives. (Does it live underwater? On skin? In soil? Give as many details as possible!) To complete your initial post, you will then use the vocabulary we discussed to classify it based on its nutritional needs and environmental requirements. (Is it a halophile? A chemoheterotroph? Use as many terms as you can!)
Answer. Amoeba is an unicellular organism, that belongs to almost all major lineages of eukaryotes. It has pseudo pods, that is, the temporary arms or legs developed for movements. Because of this trait, any other organism lying under same classification with same trait, will said to be having amoeboid locomotion. They are found in algae, protozoans, fungi and in animals. They are found in warm water bodies.
The nutrition of amoeba varies as it feeds on bacteria, dead organisms, protists or they can be detritivores. Majority amoeba eat their food by engulfing the food with their pseudo pods, in the process called phagocytosis. And some proceed with pinocytosis to eat their food. Thus, the mode of nutrition in amoeba is holozoic. They are heterotrophs and depend upon different organisms as their food.
