Acute bacterial conjunctivitis is inflammation of conjunctival tissue.
Patient present with red eye, mucopurulent discharge, irritation and chemosis.
It spreads by direct contact.
For treatment, normal we use sulfa drug like sulfacetamide sodium. As patient is allergic to sulfa drugs.
Alternative drug for the treatment is chloramphenicol, it is a bacteriostatic drug which inhibits protein synthesis. It does not contain sulfa in its composition.
It can used topically and it is safe for the treatmeant of conjunctivitis.
