The United States has a combination of a privatized system and a public system. In America, typically the elderly are covered by the government's Medicare program, and low-income individuals are covered by the government's Medicaid program. Most other people get coverage through their job as their employer provides health insurance. Some Americans buy their insurance on their own.
Other countries like Canada, Japan, and most European countries have universal health care, i.e. all its citizens receive a basic level of coverage, though the governments of the countries.
