Consider the following prescription:
Diphenhydramine 12.5 mg/5 mL 1 part
Viscous lidocaine 2% 1 part
Maalox 1 part
Disp: 150 mL
Sig: Swish and swallow 1 tsp q4h prn mouth pain
a) How many milligrams of diphenhydramine are contained in this prescription? (The correct answer is 125 mg, PLEASE SHOW ALL CALCULATION).
b) How many milligrams of lidocaine are contained in each dose of this prescription? (The correct answer is 100 mg, PLEASE SHOW ALL CALCUATION).
so in 150 ml contain.(in this prescription)
A..50 ml of Diphenhydramine... ie 125 miligram....
B...50 ml of Viscous lidocaine 2%... ie 1000 miligram of lidocaine...BUT the milligrams of lidocaine are contained in each dose of this prescription
1 tsp = 5ml
so in 150 ml = 1000 mg of lidocaine
than in 5 ml =1000*5/150 ====== 33.33 mg of lidocaine
so as per my opinion the 2nd part of question that you gave the answer of 100 mg of lidocaine are contained in each dose of this prescription is WRONG....correct answer is 33.33 mg of of lidocaine are contained in each dose of this prescription.
