You are caring for a patient that has a high pain tolerance due to chronic pain and does not look like they are in pain. What would you do if they asked for more pain medication?
Any patient who has a high pain tolerance can be given medication properly but to patients who feel that they are in pain are mentally might not be stable or they might be overthinking and getting scared of their illness. In such conditions doctors and nurses should first consent the family members of the patient and should explain them the whole scenario. Some patients are so trouble makers that they will not go from the healthcare organisation until some or the other medication, in such cases most of the doctors try to change their mind by counselling ,if still they do not listen they should give the medication in low doses and sometimes the doctors sometimes even try to trust them by giving multivitamin tablets so that the patient think that he/she is taking proper medication.
