Thinking of the Patient Bill of Rights for education and informed consent. What is the nurse’s role for consent? What if the patient refuses to sign? How can you manage this issue?
A nurse is responsible and accountable for verification of and witnessing that the patient or her/her reprosentative(legal/family memer) has signed the consent document in their presence and that patient or legal representatives is of legal age and competent to provide consent.
If the patient refuses to sign you can contact the Co oridinator of bill desk or assigned staff to explain the bill details and counsel the patient or patient party.
At the same time you should inform your heigher authority regarding the same via email , written form ,or through telephone or direct information.
Meanwhile assigned staff should record the data in patient file in order to avoid future complications.
CAPA(corrective And Preventive Action) should be followed , in order to avoid the same issues in the future as well as to maintain a diffrent approach in such situations.
