The thyroid gland plays an important role in regulation of metabolism. Abnormal thyroid function can have an impact on the control of diabetes. Untreated thyroid disorder can lead to increased risk of diabetes related complications and can aggravate the symptoms. Hyperthyroidism can cause worsening of blood glucose levels and increased insulin requirement. Increased thyroid hormones cause increased production of glucose, rapid absorption and increased insulin resistance.
