When a nurse reports abuse, should the accused be able to know the identity of his or her accuser? Should a nurse be sanctioned for reporting abuse if it proves to be false?

Answer #1

Ans) Being on the front lines of healthcare, nurses have unfortunately needed to report cases of abuse and neglect. As mandated, they are trained to identify signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect and are required by law to report their findings.

- The law provides civil and/or criminal liability for knowingly filing a false report. The reporter must have “willfully” or “intentionally” made a false report of abuse or neglect to CPS. A reporter who makes a false report is subject to criminal and civil action.
