Hypertrichosis refers to an excessive hair growth on the body, which is abnormal for age, sex, or race of an individual. It is different from hirsutism, in which the male pattern occurs in females. In case of hypertrichosis, the hair growth can occur at any part of the body, or all over the body as small patches.

Hypertrichosis results from a genetic problem, some medicines can also cause this problem, and it is not a contagious condition. So, the people with hypertrichosis should be treated normally as that the other people. Treating them special or abnormal may make them feel inferior or affect their self-esteem, which is only possible by bringing awareness among the people about its occurrence. Also, the advanced technology (such as chemical epilation, electrolysis, and thermolysis) can be used to mask the symptoms.
