Please determine if this post is a sound or unsound deductive argument and explain why.
Deductive argument:
My mother has a small dog.
She is a teacup Pomeranian.
Therefore, all small dogs are teacups.
Do you think the argument is sound or unsound?
My mother does have a small dog, thats true. She is a teacup, that's also true. So if both my premises are true that must mean my argument is valid, right? and if that is the case then that means my argument can only be one thing, or can it?
What conditions do you think are necessary to make an argument sound?
For an argument to be sound, the argument has to be valid and both premises must be true. Even when premises are both true an argument can still be unsound if the conclusion is false. If the premises were true, the conclusion could not be false—and that’s what “valid” means.
For a deductive arguement the premise which is got should be connected with the conclusion .It can be got after assessing the previous statement.Herethe argument describes that the mothe has small dogs and they are teacup pomeranian.Out of the premise the conclusion of all small dog are teacup is achieved and hebde falls into deductive arguement
It is a sound statement as the premise valids the conclusion
The condition which is required for an argument to be sound is the premise should be definite and valid in any given statement.
