The normal loading dose of magnesium sulphate is about 20 to 100mg/kg/dose.
Assessment done before administration of magnesium sulphate include check for hypersensitivity, any history of heart disease, serum electrolyte level should be monitored, monitor renal function test, during pregnancy period we should monitor the condition of patient and avoid continuos infusion.
Potential side effects include:
Decreased level of serum calcium and potassium level in the body. Low blood pressure, drowsiness etc may occur. Hih dose infusion may leads to hypermagnesimia.
MAgnesium sulphate mainly used to treat severe pre eclampsia in pregnant ladies. Also it used in asthma patients and in case of low blood magnesium level or hyperkalemia occurs
