Topic: The Eye, The Ear, and the Gastrointestinal system (MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY)
Which part did you find confusing and why?
The eye part is quite confusing because of the complex structure of the eye and, optic chiasma, and the mechanism of vision. The gastrointestinal system is less confusing than the eye and ear.
A brief description of the optic pathway:
Photoreceptor cells (rods and cones) are communicated with the nerve cells called bipolar cells. These bipolar cells synapse with the ganglion cells, which transmit the impulses to the brain via axons in the optic nerve. It is the second cranial nerve. The optic nerve is formed by the axons of ganglionic cells, which leaves the eye through the optic disk. The optic nerves of both sides cross at optic chiasma. From the optic chiasma, the impulses are carried by optic tract to visual cortex present in the occipital lobe of brain, where the image is perceived.
