You are a billing clerk for a nursing home. Your regular responsibilities require you to work in the office. You do not usually have too much contact with the residents. You are in the employee lunchroom when you hear two nurses talking to each other about a very difficult patient. The two nurses are talking about how much easier it is to deal with Mr. Jones since he has been restrained to the bed. You know that this patient resident is difficult to deal with, but he is not usually a danger to himself or others. When you talk to your manager about your concerns, you are basically told not to worry about it since you are not a medical professional. You are in fact not a medical professional. Do you have the same obligations to report the abuse? What specific steps do you take? Should you come forward even if you have no proof? Do you go over your boss' head? Who do you report your suspicions to? Your response should be at least 200 words in length.

DETAIled as possible Ethics is concerned with doing the right thing, although it is not always clear what that is. Ethics has to do with actions people should take, not necessarily actions that they are legally required to take. The primary purpose of law and legislation is to protect the patient and the nurse, thus define the scope of acceptable practices. Nurses who are aware of their rights and duties are better able to protect themselves against liability or loss...
