WHEN and WHY does pyruvate turn into oxaloacetate ?
PYRUVATE IS CONVERTED TO OXALOACETATE
(i) In cellular respiration, before entering into krebs cycle, pyruvate is converted into acetyl CoA, which enter krebs cycle and forms oxaloacetate.
(ii) pyruvate is turned into oxaloacetate Because-
A deficiency of pyruvate carboxylase can cause formation of
lactic acid and may lead to lactic acidosis.
- Normally, excess pyruvate is shunted into gluconeogenesis via
conversion of pyruvate into oxaloacetate but because of the enzyme
deficiency, excess pyruvate is converted into lactate instead.
