Answer: Cholera is an infectious disease which is caused by indigestion of the contaminated water or food with the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. Cholera causes severe acute diarrhoea and may affect several people. Usually the infection shows symptoms within 12 hours to 5 days. The symptoms includes:

  • diarrhoea
  • Vomiting
  • Pain in abdomen
  • Fatigue
  • Dehydration.

Cholera can be fatal if not treated on time. So, it is important to get proper treatment. It can affect children as well as adult. The treatment includes:

  • Oral rehydration therapy
  • Iv fluids
  • Antibiotics such as erythromycin
  • Orfloxacin
