Case 1:
Sickle cell anemia is a recessive genetic disease of the hematopoietic system, in which the red blood cells become sickle-shaped and cannot carry oxygen. The symptoms include the decreased hemoglobin, high reticulocyte count and bilirubin levels. The high bilirubin is due to the damage of abnormal RBC (red blood cells).
The sub-Saharan African regions are showing the higher allele frequencies of sickle cell anemia.
Case 2:
Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is an infectious condition caused by Staphylococcus aureus, which is called, “Streptococcal toxic-like syndrome. Young and healthy persons that belong to an age group of 20 to 50 years are at higher risk of TSS.
Etiology: The primary cause of TSS is increased colonization of Staphylococcus bacteria on superabsorbent tampons. It can also occur in females who use contraceptive sponges or diaphragms.
