Answer 1: Antitussives opioids are the medicine which is used to treat cough. The mechanism of action includes as they inhibit the region for coughing which is present in the brain stem. It inhibits the cough reflexes and hence reduces the coughing. The therapeutic use of the antitussives opioids is to treat cough due to cold, bronchitis or flu. The most common used antitussives are the dextromethorphan as well as the opioids. The opioids are usually works by acting on the centrally as well as Peripherally in the case of relieving cough.
